LOVER’S EYE
The Lover’s Eye jewel is a unique collaboration between my husband, artist Gideon Kiefer, and myself. This highly exclusive, personalised amulet is made in 18K yellow gold and includes a small oil painting by Gideon Kiefer of the eye of your loved one.
The artist's jewel was inspired by the Lover's Eyes, immensely popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It was the Prince of Wales, later crowned King George IV of England, who first commissioned such a Lover's Eye in 1784. He was in love with the widow Maria Fitsherbert. As a Protestant prince he was not allowed to marry the Catholic Mary. Which is why he gifted her a miniature portrait of his eye, set in a jewel. She would always wear it as a token of their love for each other.
